Sergeant EX/2524 Arthur James Summerhayes

Royal Marine Commando (HQ). Died on Wednesday, 11th April 1945

Personal Information:
Arthur James Summerhayes was born on 29 January 1915 at 58 Lyson's Road Aldershot Hampshire. His parents were William James Summerhayes and Rose Owens. William James was a journeyman baker by trade.

Historical Information:
The service number with a prefix of 'EX' followed by a number of three or four figures, indicates that Arthur James was a special Short Service Reservist who had entered at Exton Division between October 1939 and July 1940. Usually the ranks holding these numbers were then transferred to Chatham, Plymouth or Portsmouth and allocated a different number in the six figure series, although that does not seem to have happened in this case.
