Military Resources on the Internet

  • Commonwealth War Graves Commission - Very useful site that has a search facility for Commonwealth soldiers killed in the First & Second World Wars. Also includes civilian war deaths.
  • First World War - An incredibly exhaustive collection of documents, photographs, poetry, memoirs and links about the War to end all Wars. There are currently over 4,600 pages and 5,000 photographs!
  • The Great War Forum - Specialist forum on all aspects of the First World War. Sister site to The Long, Long Trail a tribute to the British Army in the Great War.
  • Regiments - A comprehensive website devoted to the British and Commonwealth land forces. Every regiment that has existed is listed with a biography, history, battle honours, crests and lists of senior officers.
  • North East Medals - Although this is a commercial dealer in military medals, there is an excellent reference guide here with photographs to the medals issued by the British, French and Belgium governments. There are also a number of interesting military-related articles.
  • U-Boat Net - A complete reference to the submarine since the First World War. Articles about the men and the boats, together with many photographs, books and films.
  • Airshow Calendar - A very useful listing of all known current airshows open to the public. Also included are many photographs of previous year's airshows.
