The Twycross Family

Background

The surname Twycross may originate from those who came from the village with the same name in Leicestershire in the East Midlands, eight miles from Tamworth and twelve miles from Burton-on-Trent. The village name comes from it's location at the intersection of three roads; to Burton-on-Trent, to Coventry and to Birmingham. The village contains the Twycross Zoo opened in 1963 and the private Twycross House School.

Branches of interest

There is a large branch of the family in Surrey from the 18th century, largely centred on the town of Godalming. There are connections with the Reffell and Burchatt families when Ann Twycross married Thomas Burchatt at Godalming in 1799.
