Nightingale Cemetery, Deanery Road, Godalming, Surrey

(Godalming Old Cemetery)

Nightingale Cemetery was opened in 1857 to relieve the pressure on the churchyard of St Peter and St Paul. After one hundred and forty years of use, it was closed in 1998 to new burials, other than to residents of Busbridge or Godalming. Burials for people outside of the town are allowed at Eashing Cemetery which opened in 1900. These are also known as the old and new cemeteries respectively. Both cemeteries are operated jointly by Busbridge Parish Council and Godalming Town Council. The cemetery commands very nice views over the town of Godalming and the surrounding countryside. The now-deconsecrated chapel is home to a charity providing skill training for young people.
